What to plant in winter

The winter period is the perfect time to get out into the garden and get cracking on that brand new veggie patch!

While it may seem like winter isn’t conducive to growing vegetables, there are actually several that thrive in the colder conditions.

Some of these vegetables that enjoy the cold and begin to reward you in coming months include:

  • Onions
  • Lettuce
  • Shallots
  • Broad beans
  • Peas

If you play your cards right, these seedlings can begin maturing and supplying you with fresh, home-grown, delicious produce during the winter months.

You’ll need to plant your seedlings in a spot that gets as much sun as possible during this part of the year. Shorter days means less sun, so by planting in a spot that makes the most of the winter sun during the day, you’ll get the most out of your winter crop!
