CHEETHAM WETLANDS
Spring is on the doorstep and we can feel the days getting longer already. With the weather warming up, we’ve already begun exploring new local destinations for weekend outings.
Pack a picnic, load the family into the car and head to the Cheetham Wetlands for a day full of exploration and adventure. Situated on the edge of Port Phillip Bay, the area has long been recognised for its bountiful animal life, with over 200 species of native and migratory birds.
Animal lovers of all ages will enjoy seeing these stunning creatures soaring above the sparkling waters of Skeleton Creek and Port Phillip Bay. One of the best vantage points to birdwatch is at the Spectacle Lake bird hide and on the beach during low tide.
Another point of interest is the observation tower designed by artist Bill Kelly. Titled ‘The Tower, a monument to migration and aspirations’, the award-winning structure is not only a great place to observe the Cheetham Wetlands, but a symbol and celebration of Australia’s rich cultural fabric.
